30+ YEARS OF CREATING … The Good, the Bad, and the Will to KEEP PUSHING ON.

I’ve spent the past three decades exploring sound, pushing boundaries, and following wherever creativity leads me. My music career began with The Grassy Knoll, an experimental jazz-influenced electronic and alternative rock project I led under the name Bob Green. Since the 1990s, I’ve blended elements of jazz, rock, hip-hop, and electronic music, incorporating sampled loops, live instrumentation, and an atmospheric, cinematic feel. My goal was to create something that felt like a fusion of Miles Davis' electric period, early trip-hop, and avant-garde jazz, with touches of industrial and rock.

Releasing five albums on Nettwerk and Verve/Antilles, The Grassy Knoll became part of the underground experimental music scene, earning critical acclaim for its intricate layering of rhythms and textures. While never a mainstream act, the project built a cult following among fans who appreciate genre-blurring, cinematic soundscapes. My compositions have also found a home in television, film, and video games—highlights include the theme for the Netflix series Bobby Kennedy for President, as well as placements in Legion, Incorporated, The Mod Squad, and Roswell.

Beyond music, my creative work has extended into visual media. I served as Photo Editor for CMJ New Music Monthly Magazine (1999–2002) and worked as a Video Editor for Izotope Software, Down Under Horsemanship, Texas Parks and Wildlife, and Fragile, a short film that won the Short Corner: Cannes Film Festival Award.

Now, I’m continuing my journey under my own name, Nolan Green, diving into new sonic landscapes with a focus on piano and ambient compositions. The music may have changed, but the drive to experiment and explore remains the same.

I am a cancer survivor and I’m extremely thankful for this extra time!

Things that bring me joy: connecting with people, people who create things, connecting with people who create things, music, art, coffee, running, my wife, our three cats, and the dog.
