VOLUPTUOUS MISERY: A WOMAN'S JOURNEY TROUGH TIME
Two Stories • One Vision • The Music • The Video
This is the video for “Voluptuous Misery”, a track from Electric Verdeland Vol. 1.
I shot and edited this in Austin, TX, aiming to create a visual narrative that complements the song’s atmosphere while taking its own path. The track features some incredible musicians who helped shape its sound. The trumpet work comes from longtime Grassy Knoll collaborator Chris Grady, his playing cutting through the mix like headlights in the fog—clear, fleeting, and hinting at something beyond the frame.
On vocals and guitar is the immensely talented James Rotondi, whose musical history includes playing with Air and Mr. Bungle. His approach to the lyrics and vocal delivery came from a dark and unsettling vision—he imagined himself as a hostage, blindfolded, being driven away in an unmarked van, with no idea where he was going or what fate awaited him. All he knew was that the end was near. That tension and inevitability seep into every note of his performance.
The video, however, takes a slightly different route. Rather than focusing on that claustrophobic fear, it follows the idea of a lifelong journey with one woman—a relationship unfolding over time, filled with movement, change, and the weight of shared history. There’s running away, running toward, losing and finding. And while the end still approaches, it’s not a sudden stop—it’s just the next turn in the road, the quiet closing of a long and complicated story.
FROM THE ARCHIVE:
Life has a way of showing us who we really are. Music helps me make sense of it, and sharing these stories connects the dots.
