This image of Meg White was taken in 2001 during sound check at the Mercury Lounge in NYC for CMJ New Music magazine. The buzz on the band was huge as they had just played the Bowery Ballroom the past two nights. And this was a Monday night.
The image was made with a Nikon CoolPix 950. I loved shooting bands with this camera. The 950 was a 2.0mp camera that in low-light situations had a really funky surreal blown-out digital look, almost painterly. However, I never could predict how the camera would react in different settings. It was a risky way to work but it produced many happy accidents. I was elated when Rolling Stone asked if they could use one of my images from this shoot with Meg and Jack.
